Neil and Helen - Creating A Monster?
Neil learnt to be self-sufficient at a young age after losing first his father and his elder brother before he was 15. He learnt how to fix things around the home to help his mother, an academic. After a scholarship to public school, he studied at Oxford University before gaining a Masters in economics from UCL. From there, he went into banking and after years of economical peaks and troughs floated his company and became a wealthy man. Having met his ex-wife at university, they had three children. He also has two step-children. Helen, his daughter, also went to Oxford University where she studied History. She is now doing a Masters in Curation having decided her future lies in the Arts.
Neil asked to take part in the Listening Project with Helen to ask whether she felt his wealth had had a positive or negative impact on her ambitions. He fears he has given his children an easier childhood than his own - but at what price?
