"This movie was made with so much love." Greta Gerwig on Lady Bird
The actor, writer and director Greta Gerwig talks about capturing her hometown of Sacramento and a complex but relatable mother-daughter relationship on screen; as well as the all-important casting of Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalfe (who've both been Oscar nominated for their performances.)
Music is very important to Greta (she believes a lot of film-makers want to be musicians) and she enjoyed working with composer Jon Brion on Lady Bird; picking early Noughties tunes for the soundtrack; and creating daily playlists for each character, and for every day of shooting.
Greta has already made film history, as the first ever woman to be nominated for her directorial debut (Lady Bird's also been nominated for Best Picture and for her Original Screenplay). But she will be heading to the 4th March ceremony buoyed by the knowledge that her old school (St. Francis Catholic High) are offering up prayers for victory, and holding a special Red Carpets Awards Party on campus.
