Gil and Abi - My Mother's Voice
Mother and daughter Gil and Abi are very close, and speak every day. In 2017 they were devastated to learn that Gil has motor neurone disease. Gil, a speech and drama teacher is dreading the potential loss of her voice and is working with a therapist to preserve of much of it as she can. Spurred on by this, Abi asked to take part in the Listening Project while Gil is still fully able. During their full conversation they discussed their time when Gil was a single mother to Abi and her brother John, family history and the future. In this extract, they discuss both their teenage rebellions and how they are coping with Gil's diagnosis.
