Rachael and Kirsten - Why Would You Live on an Island?
Friends Rachael and Kirsten are both based on the island of Jura. It's a tiny place with a population of under 200. In the summer, numbers are boosted by the seasonal visitors. This is how Rachael first arrived on the island. She was born in North Shields and first visited Jura in 2010 to work at the island's one hotel. She stuck around, and now works at the local distillery. Rachael goes out with Kirsten's cousin Michael. Kirsten has a longer relationship with the island. She's a glass artist, and at the time of recording this conversation, she was trying to decide whether a full-time move to Jura was sustainable. Kirsten was born in Banbury, but her gran was originally from Jura so she's spent summers there since she was a child and spent a couple of years living there from the age of six. She moved back in her 20s after a period of travelling. Even though life on Jura isn't easy, it keeps on pulling her back and it's been a constant in her life.
