A city built for scientists
A huge "Science City" was built in the middle of a Siberian forest in 1957. Dozens of research institutes were built, and top scientists were enticed to come to work in the harsh, inhospitable region. Victor Varand was one of the first research chemists to move to "Academic City". He told Witness what it was like to live and work in such an unusual place.
