Behind the maternal support forumsβ¦
As part of ³ΙΘΛΏμΚΦ Radio 5 live's #mumtakeover - the UK's biggest conversation about motherhood and mental health - we spoke to Karen to find out about her work as a parent support worker.
Karen works for Netmums, offering guidance across their online forums to mums who are experiencing a range of issues, from postnatal depression to domestic abuse.
βWe are there to listen to them, support them and help them overcome whatβs specific in their thread.β
She feels her personal experiences help her understand what support other mothers might need:
βIβve suffered with postnatal depression myselfβ¦ I suffered with a miscarriage,β said the mother of two.
βI needed to have some time and space to open up about what was going on with me.β
βSo whether youβre pregnant mum or a mum who has a two-year-old, you can come and talk to the community on the boards or to a parent support worker, like me.β
