"For us we were marrying for life, full stop..."

70 years ago Princess Elizabeth walked up the aisle of Westminster Abbey to marry Prince Phillip. Her wedding dress, designed by Norman Hartnell, was made of duchesse satin and the family had to use ration coupons to get hold of the material. 2000 guests came to the Abbey and 200 million people listened to the ceremony on the radio.

In that same year Edward and Lilias Stanbrook Evans also tied the knot in a somewhat smaller affair in Luton. They too have celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary this year and have been commemorated on a special coin made by the London Mint Office.

Henrietta Harrison went to meet them in Norwich where they were making lunch.
