What is a murmuration - and why do starlings do it?

What is a murmuration and why do starlings do it? 18-year-old bird enthusiast Georgia Locock explains why starlings perform their amazing, "hypnotic" flight patterns.

Georgia told 5 live Breakfast that during the months of October and November, bird numbers in a murmuration of starlings can grow to 鈥渉undreds of thousands or even millions鈥, flocking together to provide 鈥渟afety in numbers鈥 from predators such as peregrine falcons.

鈥淸There鈥檚] massive movements of starlings taking place at this time of year, it鈥檚 just such a spectacular sight,鈥 Georgia said.
