Flood Tax for Surrey?
Households in Surrey could be paying a flood tax of 拢12-13 a year.
The county council could seek government approval for a new levy or surcharge, to help pay for new flood defences for the Surrey stretch of the Thames.
A report warns at least 30,000 properties in 174 areas remain at risk of flooding but says the council cannot afford a 拢100m contribution requested by the Environment Agency.
Deborah Dunn-Walters, who was flooded out of her home at Laleham Reach, Surrey, says the area needs alleviation measures and she believes the people of Surrey would support the tax.
Councillor Colin Kemp tells 成人快手 Surrey his first preference would be additional funding from central government.
