Americans 'knew' about 1960s Indonesian massacres
In the mid-1960s the Indonesian government led a massive anti-communist purge that saw an estimated 500,000 to one million people indiscriminately killed. Newly declassified documents show that United States officials were very much aware of the massacres and sought to suppress wider knowledge of them.
