A step back for same sex marriage in Australia?
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has held a special meeting of MPs from the ruling Liberal-National coalition, after 5 MPs from within his party pushed publicly for a parliamentary vote on equal marriage.
The rebel MPs are supported by gay rights campaigners who think a public vote is unnecessary. Despite their efforts, the coalition has instead restated its commitment to having a national plebiscite on the issue in which Australians themselves could vote.
Rodney Croome from the organisation "just equal" has been an LGBT advocate for over 30 years and told James Menendez that the government was moving too slowly on legalising same sex marriage.
