
Gene editing explained in thirty seconds
A genetics expert has distilled the complex process of gene editing into 30 seconds. It鈥檚 a breakthrough procedure that scientists hope could eventually end inherited diseases.
Gene editing involves removing faulty DNA from an embryo. Researchers in the US and South Korea have successfully fixed a defective DNA in an embryo, to stop them developing a heart condition.
Professor Darren Griffin from the University of Kent told 5 live Breakfast: 鈥淸Gene editing] is undoubtedly a huge advance and has huge amounts of ethical questions associated with it. We need to keep in perspective the amount of need there is for it.鈥
