For our Queer Icons series, Sir Nicholas Hytner chooses Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, the song written by Rodgers and Hart.
He reveals that Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered - from the 1940 Rodgers and Hart musical, Pal Joey - was written by Lorenz Hart in code, with a gay subtext.
Sir Nicholas Hytner is the former Artistic Director of the National Theatre, whose productions include The History Boys and One Man, Two Guvnors. His new theatre company is The Bridge Theatre.
