May: 'Election will strengthen our position in EU'

The Prime Minister tells the Today programme why she called a snap election.

The Prime Minister Theresa May says she called the general election to give the public a chance to place their trust in her and in the government.
She said this election would strengthen her mandate when negotiating with the EU and she is not seeking an electoral "blank cheque".

She rejected Nick Robinson's question that some might see the election as political opportunism and said she was working in the best interests of the British people to secure a strong future for the country post Brexit.

The 成人快手's Political Editor Laura Keunssberg provides analysis.
