The first Saudi woman to climb Everest

When Raha Moharrak reached her mid twenties and pressure grew on her to find a husband and settle down, a chance meeting would change her life forever.

Raha comes from a traditional Saudi family and the ultra-conservative kingdom forbids women to take part in many activities. So when Raha became the first Saudi woman to conquer Mount Everest it pushed the boundaries of what her family, and more broadly the nation thought was possible and acceptable for women to do.
