Listen to the second of Matthew鈥檚 weekly commissions for 70 at 70, a series of musical and cultural commissions to mark 70 years of 成人快手 Radio 3. Snowbells was inspired by the music of Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen, in particular the sonic landscape of his 2008 piece Schnee (or snow) and its use of very high violin and piano.

As he was working on the piece, Kaner felt that the harmonies for piano he was writing sounded like gentle and quiet bells, which reminded him of snowbells - hence the title.
