American photographer Chuck Rapoport remembers Aberfan
21 October 2016 will mark 50 years since the Aberfan disaster. A coal tip slid down the mountain, engulfing a school and houses. 116 children and 28 adults were killed. An American photographer, Chuck Rapoport, arrived soon after to capture images of a village in mourning. The photos in this video form an exhibition opening on Tuesday 13 September at Redhouse museum in Merthyr - but the images - and the way they were taken - also led to life-long friendships. Paul Heaney went to meet him. All Photos copyright: I.C. Rapoport
