Joanna and Freddie - Coming of Age
Freddie (11) shares a conversation with his mum Joanna. Freddie had just finished Primary 6 and was due to enter his last year of primary school after the summer holidays. He'd also turned 11 the day before, so he was feeling quite reflective. His big brother Alex was supposed to take part in the recording, but he felt too embarrassed. Alex was preparing for his Bar Miztvah, and this turning point reflected on the conversation between Freddie and his mum. Joanna and her husband divorced when Freddie was two. Freddie's dad lives with his new partner, and Freddie and Alex spend half their week with mum, and half with dad. Joanna and Freddie's dad get on amicably, and this has helped Freddie to retain a strong relationship with his grandparents on both sides. He says without this, he'd never have developed his love of "bulkies and pickles."
