Directed and Animated by Carwyn David - Bristol School of Animation, UWE Bristol - May 2016.
Fred talks to his son Neil about being seriously injured at Normandy.
Carwyn says, "What immediately caught my attention when listening to Fred and Neil鈥檚 interview about life after Normandy was the warmth and love that was apparent as they spoke of and to each other. The bond between father and son, especially Neil鈥檚 admiration for Fred, calling him 鈥淥ne of my greatest heroes,鈥 coupled with the poignant and powerful description of Fred鈥檚 experience of the Normandy Campaign and his subsequent injuries meant a unique challenge to try and convey visually."
"To this I tried to convey Fred鈥檚 experiences from his perspective, trying to suggest Fred鈥檚 memories and using only white on black to evoke the senses other than the sight that Fred had lost during the campaign. I also wanted the description of tangled fishing line, as it was such a powerful section in the interview, to be a motif and vital part of the aesthetic."
