'It was the historian Tacitus who looked at Britain and said 'the Romans make a desert and call it peace' - there's never been a more damning critique of Empire.' Roman expert and TV's own Mary Beard joins Mark to talk about her new book 'SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome'. It co-indices with her new 成人快手 Two series 'Meet the Romans with Mary Beard' which starts in April.

Hailing from Much Wenlock, Shropshire, Mary went on to study classics at King's College London and later became Professor of Classics at Cambridge. The series and book chart the journey of Rome from a small village to a European superpower.
