Did grave robbers steal Shakespeare's skull?
A team of archaeologists has been allowed to carry out a hi-tech scan of the grave of William Shakespeare.
The technology allows them to investigate what lies beneath the gravestone without disturbing it, or risking the curse which supposedly protects the site. A story published in the mid-19th century about grave robbers stealing Shakespeare's skull was considered to be fiction.
Dr Helen Castor, who presents Channel 4's Shakespeare's Tomb said: "There is a peculiar repair at the head end… it must have been disturbed at some point, and a story that is thought to be fiction may not be".
