Lady Lavery
Who was the inspiration for the face representing Ireland on the Irish Republic鈥檚 first bank notes?
It was, in fact, British society hostess, Lady Lavery, the American-born wife of Belfast painter, Sir John Lavery, who was commissioned to paint the portrait which would end up on the new currency in 1928.
