Mary Contini | Extended Interview
After growing up in East Lothian, Mary, whose father had come over from Italy in the 1920s, married into another Italian family, who owned Edinburgh’s Valvona & Crolla delicatessen. After being warned she’d end up ‘behind the counter’, she insisted she was made a director of the business, and along with her husband Philip, grew the business and made a name for herself as an authority on Italian food in Scotland. Shereen asks Mary to reflect on the qualities that have made her the businesswoman she is today.
