4. Georgina McKeown talks to John Bennett about her journey on the ill-fated 07.10 train from Bangor

The 07.10 workers' train from Bangor to Belfast on Wednesday, 10th January 1945 consisted of 13 six-wheel carriages, packed with over 600 passengers. Many left the train at Victoria Park Halt, moments before the train was stopped by a manually-operated signal on the approach to Ballymacarrett Junction where the Bangor line met the main line from Comber. Due to a fault with the signal, the signalman in Ballymacarrett Junction Signal Cabin was not able to give the train the 鈥渁ll clear鈥 to proceed towards Belfast. Before he had time to bring the train into Belfast using hand signals, the following train from Holywood had run into the back of the Bangor train. 19 passengers were killed and another three died later from their injuries.

Georgina McKeown was a passenger on the train and she told John Bennett about her journey that morning and described the scene after the crash.
