People in parts of Leicestershire hit by flooding are being warned it may take several days for river levels to return to normal. The south of the county has seen the worst of it, with Market Harborough, Cosby and Broughton Astley being particularly hard hit. Emergency services were dealing with flood-related calls all day yesterday - with people being rescued from cars in Smeeton Westerby near Market Harborough, and also Lutterworth. Cars parked at Market Harborough station were completely submerged as the Welland broke it's banks.
Also, they were once described as the 'gondola of London', and at its height, there were thousands of them on our streets. Yes, we're talking about the Hansom Cab- one of the world's best known horse-drawn carriages which was developed here in Leicestershire. Naturally, technology moved on and the use of the cab dwindled- until there were no more trotting around. But now there are plans for one to return to its birthplace in Hinckley.
And, the Lollipop man or woman is a much loved and essential feature outside many schools in Leicestershire and Rutland. But one headteacher in Leicestershire has serious concerns this morning for the safety of her pupils because her school cannot find a permanent crossing patrol.
