GPs, Prisons & Pocket Parks

Rupal Rajani sits in alongside Jim to start your day with the latest news and updates.

After a senior doctor in Leicestershire warned that GP surgeries in our area were facing extinction, this morning we're being told that they won't be allowed to happen.

Chris Hewitt, the Chief Executive of the Local Medical Committee for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, said this about the number of practices in Leicester closing this year because doctors were either retiring or leaving the area altogether. This has left many surgeries at breaking point.
But now health bosses say there are contingency plans for all of those practices which have doctors either retiring or leaving. Joining us in the studio is Dr Tony Bentley, the Clinical Lead for Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group.

An unannounced inspection has found high levels of violence and self harming at Leicester prison.

A damning report has been published on the crowded facility, which holds 325 inmates - 50 percent over capacity. In a statement, the Ministy of Justice has told us: "Leicester's report is an example of how our ageing prisons need reform. We will be investing 拢1.3 billion to transform the prison estate over the next five years, to better support rehabilitation and tackle bullying, violence and drugs."
成人快手 Radio Leicester's Giles Taylor has been taking a look at some of the key findings.

And if you enjoy walks in the park- even on these bitterly cold mornings- then you might be interested to know that there's going to be three new ones created in Leicester... with a small difference!

Small being the operative word here. They're called 'pocket parks' and thanks to some government money, they're being developed at three sites across the city.
成人快手 Radio Leicester's pocket-sized reporter Jack Rafferty decided he was going to go and find out more!
