Greg Nickels called on US mayors to pledge to the Kyoto protocol - 780 signed up
When Kyoto protocol came into force in 2005, the mayor of Seattle, Greg Nickels, sent a letter to 14 other mayors in US, calling on them to meet or beat the Kyoto protocol targets in their own communities. By March 2008, 780 cities in the US had signed up to the initiative National movement
