With the wealth gap in America rising, many poor families are facing barriers to opportunity, says Jared Bernstein, senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington DC. He argues that with poor families no longer able to spend on schooling, their children won't have the opportunity to get good jobs and move up the income ladder.
