Deirdre McCloskey and her brother, the children of a Harvard professor, both had the same opportunities in their early lives. But while she followed in her father's footsteps to become an academic, her brother found himself sweeping the university floors as a cleaner. She says this shows that giving people the same opportunities won鈥檛 create a more equal society.
