An opposition rally in Myanmar has been attacked by men wielding knives and swords, just over a week before the country's first openly-contested election in 25 years. The attack on a rally in Yangon held by the main opposition party, the National League for Democracy, has raised concerns about how free and fair the election can be. We hear from Lex Rieffel, Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brooking Institution and affiliate of the Global Economy and Development program.

We also look at how Myanmar's economy is slowly starting to open up to the world after decades of isolation. The lifting of most western sanctions three years ago has helped to grow the country's middle class, and led to a wave of new foreign investment.
