Before destruction: Remembering Syria's Palmyra

Palmyra, Syria, is considered one of the world's most important cultural heritage sites. In August, the UN confirmed the so-called Islamic State had destroyed many precious structures at the site, including the 2000 year old temple of Baal Shamin. Late in 2010, before the Arab uprising, Georgia based amateur photographer, Teo Jioshvili, took a series of remarkable photos depicting the beauty of Palmyra. The UN will be using the pictures to help preserve the memory of the ancient city.
