Netherseal, Derbyshire: Famous Engineer鈥檚 Childhood 成人快手

Sir Nigel Gresley was a train designer. He鈥檚 arguably most well known for his engine the Mallard which set a world speed record for steam of 126 miles an hour, a record which to this day has never been beaten.

He was the youngest son of five of the Reverend Nigel Gresley, Rector of Neatherseal Church in Derbyshire. Today his former boyhood home has been split into two dwellings.

At the outbreak of war he reorganised Doncaster Works for the production of armaments as well as modifying trains for military use. He was given a CBE for his work effort during war time.

On 5 April 1941, two months before he was due to retire, Sir Nigel Gresley died of a heart attack. He was buried in the family plot, just up the road from his boyhood home in Netherseal.
