Poets' Corner memorial for Larkin

Philip Larkin is to be commemorated with a memorial in Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey.

A stone will be placed in the floor of the Abbey close to that of Ted Hughes, the last poet to receive the accolade.

It will be unveiled on 2 December 2016, the 31st anniversary of Larkin's death.

Philip Larkin, who died in 1985, is regarded as one of Britain's finest twentieth century poets - and one of the most popular, thanks to poems such as The Whitsun Weddings and An Arundel Tomb.

However, as arts correspondent Rebecca Jones reports, for some, he鈥檚 a controversial figure.

The Dean of Westminster Abbey, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, said it was the right time to add him to the "extraordinary pantheon" in Poets' Corner.
