About the music: Marfa is a young widow and an 鈥極ld Believer鈥�, opposed to the reforms introduced by Peter the Great in the 17th century. She sings of her past love for the son of Prince Ivan Khovansky, Andrei, who was one of the leaders of the plot against the state.
