Alton Towers park owner: 'I simply do not know what made accident happen'
Nick Varney, chief executive of the company which owns Alton Towers, Merlin Entertainments, said he "simply doesn't know", what caused the rollercoaster accident on June 2.
"This is the worst thing that has happened at Alton Towers for some time ...We need to understand what went on with the Smiler".
Alton Towers will remain closed on June 3, after the accident on one of its rollercoasters severely injured four people.
One of them is reported to have lost a leg after a carriage with 16 passengers, half-way up a slope, crashed back into an empty carriage on the same track.
It took five hours to release all those trapped on the Smiler ride.
