Could the use of old rolling stock have caused many of the deaths?

Desperate to get reinforcements to the front at Gallipoli, the government and Rail Company had acquired dated rolling stock to transfer the soldiers to Liverpool. These Great Central carriages – which were made almost entirely of wood and lit by gas, collapsed on impact, trapping the men inside. When the gas which leaked out of the tanks and pipework caught fire, the wreckage turned into an inferno.
