From Antarctica to Mount Kilimanjaro, we explore the unusual places people have played cricket in. Paul Daniels a member of a very special cricket team, the Captain Scott XI, joins us live on the show. The Captain Scott XI was captained by the late Harry Thompson, a TV producer and author of the cricket book Penguins Stopped Play. The team decided to try and play cricket on all seven continents which is documented in the book. Paul regales us with stories from their adventures playing cricket around the globe including in Antarctica where a group of penguins invaded the wicket to stop play.
In September 2014 a new world record was set for the highest-ever cricket match after a group of international cricketers played at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. Chris Dennis speaks to England鈥檚 former one day coach Ashley Giles, England Women鈥檚 vice-captain Heather Knight, former England Women鈥檚 cricketer Clare Connor and Phil Walker, editor of All Out Cricket magazine. They were all part of the 30-strong tour group and talk about their gruelling mission not only to reach the top of Africa鈥檚 highest mountain but also to play an ICC-certified game of cricket.
One of the oldest sports teams in the world is fighting to stay in existence. The Genoa Cricket Club was formed in the 19th century and is best known for bringing about the birth of Italian football. Now, though, it is the cricketers who need the football club they formed in 1893 to keep them alive. Steve Crossman reports.
