A great-grandmother who was 鈥渄evastated鈥� when her bedroom was 鈥渃ompletely wrecked鈥� by a burglar, has chosen to read an impact statement to him in court.

Margaret Wallace, 64, who has been unable to sleep in her bed since the crime, said she wanted to tell the man 鈥渉ow he made elderly people feel鈥�.

鈥淚 said: would you like it done to your mother if she lived by yourself? ...Imagine what you鈥檙e doing to your mother and father. You must be breaking their hearts.鈥�

Mrs Wallace is one of only a handful of victims who have chosen to appear in court, after a change in the law allowed victims to tell criminals the impacts of their actions.
