Auschwitz survivor: 'I think back - how did I survive?'

It has been 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp, and survivor Renee Firestone says she still cannot believe she made it out alive.

Renee, now 90 and living in California, was 15 when the camp was liberated, but was out on a 鈥渄eath march鈥 at the time. She was not freed from Nazi capture until the end of the war.

鈥淗ow did I survive? I don鈥檛 remember. I don鈥檛 believe anyone can survive that,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 was sure I was going to die along the way.鈥

She described how Nazi doctor Josef Mengele would 鈥渟elect girls at roll call鈥 who were sick or weak, to be "eliminated".

鈥淲e called him the angel of death. He selected people every single day鈥 Every day we were less and less,鈥 she said.

Auschwitz was the largest camp created by the Germans, and more than a million people 鈥 the vast majority of them Jews 鈥 were killed there.
