Venezuela and India
Mike Thomson in Caracas finds police and health services stretched to their limits; Anu Anand endures 7 hours' queuing and a near-riot to win access to a Delhi swimming pool
Out of control! Owen Bennett Jones introduces two stories of disarray and disorder, from Venezuela and India. Since the death of Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's government has been trying to ride waves of popular protest over crime and the economy - but those aren't the only concerns. Mike Thomson in Caracas finds police and health services stretched to their limits, while airport staff can only watch as some of the country's talent flies away. And during New Delhi's sweltering summer, Anu Anand's finding the temperature rising at home, so found the idea of a long swim in a cool pool irresistible. Little did she know that just getting a membership application form would take 7 hours' queuing, a retired colonel's signature and enduring a near-riot ....
