The Sunni extremist group Isis has astounded many by the speed with which it has taken territory in Iraq, and begun to realise its aim of establishing a jihadist caliphate. But the conditions for Isis's success have not come out of nowhere. Fergal Keane remembers what he saw when he was first in Iraq, during the US-led invasion. And he can trace the roots of the current conflict back even further.

Foreign tourists are continuing to stay away from Kenya, after a spate of terrorist attacks. There are different opinions about who carried them out. As a high profile terrorist trial continues, Andrew Harding feels there鈥檚 a lot at stake for the country.
