The Indian elections and Narendra Modi

On Wednesday 20th April voting in the Indian state of Gujarat took place in the 7th phase of elections in the world’s largest democracy.

The elections have seen the ruling Congress party pitted against the main opposition BJP who are widely favoured to win.

The leader of the BJP, Narendra Modi, is also the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

But some say he is a controversial choice and that he didn’t do enough to prevent violence between Hindus and Muslims during the Gujarat riots in 2002.
