The government's free school programme is failing to cater for African and Caribbean communities, according to the founder of one such proposed school. The initiative, which was introduced by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition following the 2010 general election, has enabled parents, teachers, charities and businesses to set up 184 new schools around the country. But an application for a free school, primarily serving black boys, has been repeatedly turned down by the Department for Education. In this extract, the 成人快手's Reya El-Salahi speaks to Kay Johnston, the founder of the proposed Diaspora High School, and Michael Hrebeniak, Admissions Tutor at Wolfson College of the University of Cambridge, who pledged his support to the South London school.
