Daisy's story, told by Olivia Colman
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Children in Need helps children like Daisy who has Down's Syndrome.
Daisy has Down's Syndrome and has instability at the top of her spine, so she has to wear a neck brace and needs to take care to avoid being bumped or jostled in case it makes her condition worse.
Playing with other boisterous children can be tricky, but like every mum, Donna wanted her little girl to have the same experiences as every other child. So tried taking Daisy along to singing groups. But because Daisy needs more support, sometimes she didn't get a chance to take part and her voice was lost amongst the noise. That's when Donna found Speech, Sign and Song Club which receives funding from ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Children in Need. It provides music sessions for any child who needs extra support communicating and is Daisy's favourite time of the week.
A grant from Children in Need funds a music leader, group co-ordinator and musicians who provide weekly speech, sign and song sessions for children like Daisy and for those with specific language impairments or autism. As well as being fun, this helps reduce their frustration by enabling them to express their feelings and communicate their needs.
