Schizophrenia Awareness Week

Dr Chetna Kang and Toby Friedner focus on disability and mental health.

It's the first Schizophrenia awareness week.

National charity Rethink Mental Illness has published a report about the dilemmas people face in revealing their diagnosis and the discrimination they encounter as a result.

In a survey more than three quarters (77%) would not tell their neighbours if they were diagnosed with schizophrenia. Only 35% would tell their boss, while less than a third (31%) say they would tell their work colleagues.

This week we'll meet people with Schizophrenia and hear about the impact their illness has had on them and the response they received from people they told.
