Costa Concordia salvage
As one of the biggest salvage attempts ever made begins off the Italian coast to raise the capsized ship, the Costa Concordia, WHYS hears the thoughts of some of the survivors
One of the biggest salvage attempts ever made has begun off the Italian coast as crews try to raise the capsized cruise ship, the Costa Concordia. Once it has been refloated, it will eventually be towed away to be scrapped.
Thirty-two people died when the ship hit rocks on on the 13 January 2012. The bodies of two of the dead, a passenger and a crew member, have never been recovered and may be found during the operation.
The salvage operation will be an important moment for the people of Giglio - and a special prayer was said during Sunday Mass.
