O'Neill, Paisley and civil rights

When Northern Ireland's unionist Prime Minister Terence O'Neill met with the Irish Taoiseach Sean Lemass in 1965 as part of his policies of reform, Ian Paisley led the political opposition. In the years following this landmark meeting, a civil rights movement emerged in Northern Ireland, itself encountering opposition in the shape of the security forces to its demonstrations. After this, Northern Ireland would never be the same again.
