Speaking English equals being British
You must speak English, if you want to be fully British. That's the message from Communities Minister Eric Pickles speaking recently at an 'Integration In 2013' event. The Conservative MP told an invited audience that people should be able to understand each other, and speak good English.
He announced that, in future, instead of putting money into translation services, he would fund projects that help people to learn the language.
