A low-tech design solution for water collection in South Africa
Successful design doesn't necessarily require sophisticated technology or big budgets. In South Africa, one company is changing how water is collected in some of the country's most poverty-stricken areas. The energy of children playing on a roundabout is harnessed to operate a water pump. Not only has the company made clean drinking water accessible with its ingeniously simple design solution, it is also re-addressing the gender balance with the gathering of water and assisting young people's access to schools.
