Mixed heritage, religion and politics in the Middle East - life in the Israeli army (pt 3/7)
Reya El-Salahi continues her quest to understand what life is like for Israeli teens. Reya investigates life in the Israeli Army and spends the day with Keren, a London-born Jewish girl who volunteered to spend two years in the Israeli army. Keren tries to explain why she left London to join the army, and the importance of her role in relation to her faith. Reya tries to identify why teenagers are happy to join the army, and how she would feel about it.
This is the personal journey of presenter Reya El-Salahi and also features contributors with extreme religious and political views. It deals with conflict in Israel and the Middle East from both the Jewish Israeli and Palestinian Arab sides. Issues of race, religion and contentious politics are explored.
